Blot immediately with a dry cloth (never rub), then dab with a mix of warm water and a drop of mild soap. Never use hot water: it sets the tannin in the coffee into the fiber instead of dissolving it.

Wine stains

Blot first, sprinkle salt or baking soda to absorb before the stain penetrates, then dab with warm water.
